Soccer (Fall 2020)

Due to safety concerns, the Union County Youth Soccer League has cancelled the fall season (this is the local league we are involved with). Therefore, Legacy Sports will be offering the following in-house Modified Soccer Season (think training academy rather than traditional league):

  • This will be a 7-week program running from September 14 - October 31
  • All sessions will be held at Southbrook Church on the athletic field. They are requiring us to keep the number of people on the field at any given time to 25 or under per the Governor’s current outdoor gathering mandate.
  • The goal for each division will be to have a max of 20 players and 2-3 coaches (if there is enough interest in one division, we will look to create multiple time slots)
  • Each division will be assigned one 60-minute weeknight practice time slot to work on individual skill development (NOTE: The U05/06 Division will meet on Saturdays only, no weeknight session)
  • Each division will be assigned one 60-minute Saturday time slot to play 3v3, 4v4, or 6v6 scrimmages (times may vary). There will be no distinct teams; players will be divided up differently each Saturday based on who shows up and how things are going.
  • Players will receive a Legacy practice shirt and one reversible jersey rather than a full uniform; this will allow for flexibility on Saturdays during scrimmage time and give more of a practice appearance since full game play is currently prohibited
  • Coaches and players will not be required to wear face coverings and temp checks will not be conducted at the field, but all participants will be required to submit a signed “in-take” form at every session confirming they are healthy and haven’t been exposed to COVID recently
  • Spectators will need to remain in their vehicles at all times to ensure we stay below the 25-person threshold (only coaches and players allowed on the field)
  • In order to avoid different divisions being on campus and at the field simultaneously, there will be a built-in gap between session times to allow for one group to clear out before the next group arrives. Players should remain in their vehicle until 5 minutes before their session time and then quickly return to their vehicle as soon as the session ends.
WHAT ABOUT COVID?
Of course there is a chance the season could get put on hold or cancelled at any moment but for now we are going to proceed as if we will be able to play most/all of the season. During registration, you will have the option to pay a $10 non-refundable deposit to lock in your spot. Your remaining balance will then be drafted automatically in September if we are able to start the season as planned. For those with an account credit, it will automatically be applied at checkout which means you will end up paying more than the $10 non-refundable deposit up front but rest assured you will receive the appropriate credit if necessary. In short, participants will end up paying a fair amount during the season based on what happens (partial and/or full refunds will be issued accordingly). NOTE: The $10 non-refundable deposit fee allows us to cover pre-season expenses.

Soccer Program Information

Recreational League for Players Born 2006-2015 (Fall/Spring)
All of our recreational teams are coached by volunteers and are designed to help players improve regardless of their skill or experience level. Expect a mixture of beginners and experienced players. Our player development model includes coaches discussing The Legacy Story during each practice. Teams practice 1 or 2 nights/week @ 5:00pm or later for 60-90 minutes.

All teams will compete in the Union County Youth Soccer League (includes teams from Waxhaw, Weddington, Indian Trail, and Mint Hill). All practices will be held at Southbrook Church but games will be played at various locations in Union County mostly on Saturdays with some occasional Sunday afternoons.

Academies & Camps (Summer/Winter)
Our Soccer Academies & Camps are designed to help players learn to enhance basic soccer fundamentals (dribbling, passing, shooting, defensive positioning, etc.) in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Expect a mixture of beginners and experienced players along with plenty of scrimmage/game play. Age range varies. Our player development model includes coaches discussing The Legacy Story during each session.

What if I have a 4-year old ready to play (Birth Year 2016)?
We offer a 4-year old soccer academy that meets on Saturdays only during the spring and fall (usually total of 8 sessions).

What happens if there are not enough players in a division?

If we are unable to get enough coaches and/or players to create a full team in any division, we will look at combining multiple divisions (making the age gap larger) before canceling anything. If cancellation is necessary, registrants will receive a full refund.

What's the difference between Academies and Camps?
Academies run for 3-8 weeks with 1-2 sessions per week each lasting 75-90 minutes. Camps run 4 consecutive days (M/T/W/TH) with each session lasting 2-4 hours each. Both are designed to meet the description listed above with the main difference being the time frame.
